Research Interests

  • Carbonate Sedimentology and Sequence Stratigraphy. Currently, I am working on the Early Cretaceous Aptian, Shuaiba reservoir, Shaybah field, Saudi Arabia.
  • Integration of rock-based facies and sequence Stratigraphic framework with chemostratigraphy to better understand the stacking patterns and sea-level fluctuations during the Barremian/Aptian stages.
  • Pore-system characterizations and petrophysical rock-typing to define flow unites and barriers for better reservoir characterization and development.

Experience

  • Carbonate Sedimentologist and Stratigrapher, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran, 2006–2008.
  • Graduate student, Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg. September 2004–June 2006.
  • Well-site/operation geologist, Saudi Aramco Oil Company, Dhahran. 1998–2004.

Publications

  • Al-Ghamdi, N. and J.F. Read 2009. Facies-based sequence stratigraphic framework of the Lower Cretaceous rudist platform, Shu'aiba Formation, Shaybah field, Saudi Arabia. In F.S.P van Buchem, M.I. Al-Husseini, F. Maurer and H.J. Droste (Eds.). Aptian stratigraphy and petroleum habitat of the eastern Arabian Plate. GeoArabia Special Publication 4, Gulf PetroLink, Bahrain, in press.
  • Al-Ghamdi, N. and J. F. Read 2009. Facies and core-based sequence stratigraphic framework of Early Cretaceous Shuaiba buildup, Shaybah field, Saudi Arabia. Abstract. AAPG annual meeting, Denver, Colorado.
