Introduction

The Texas A&M Department of Geology and Geophysics has been at the forefront of petroleum research and teaching since its inception in 1922. Organizationally located within the College of Geosciences, the department offers a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum in petroleum geosciences with specializations available in sedimentary geology, structural geology and tectonics, reflection seismology, biostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy and reservoir characterization and response. In partnership with the Dwight Look College of Engineering, many courses are also available to our students through the Petroleum Engineering Department.

The Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Geosciences is not an independent degree program, but an addition to M.S. and Ph.D. students' academic curricula. The program includes specialized course requirements, internship presentations, and enrichment activities designed to promote original research in one of the subdisciplines listed above.

The certificate is awarded upon completion of each student's M.S. or Ph.D. in the Department of Geology and Geophysics. Its value has been regognized by top petroleum firms, which actively recruit our graduates for positions pertaining to research, exploration and other geological operations.
