Project Overview

Texas with hill country outlined The objective of the Texas Hill Country Virtual Field Trip is to educate visitors to the website about the geology of the hill country in Texas. A key part of this objective is that we wanted to create a website that people could visit that would, in effect, show visitors what the hill country would be like if they visited it themselves.

Sedimentary Processes: This section describes the sedimentary division of geologic processes using definitions and illustrations.
Geologic History: This section describes the history of the hill country through the past geologic events.
Virtual Hikes: This section takes the viewer on a hike to Longhorn Caverns, a cavern created by sedimentary processes. It ties the previous sections together showing the big picture of how all the topics come alive through a field trip.
Other Sites: This section provides quick links to other sites that have virtual field trips or have information related to the Texas hill country.

This website was constructed by Jennifer Dahms and Amanda Calhoun under the supervision and instruction of Dr. Bruce Herbert, associate professor in the Geology and Geophysics Department at Texas A&M University. Jennifer Dahms completed her studies in the Earth Sciences field and is currently looking for a teaching job at the junior high school level. Amanda Calhoun is a Life/Earth Science major and is also seeking an Outdoor Leadership Certification from Texas A&M. She will graduate in December of 1997. We completed this project for credit in the course entitled "Internet in Earth Science Education," taught by Dr. Herbert.
