Arches - field tripThe Department of Geology & Geophysics provides a wide variety of courses designed to fully prepare students for their chosen careers. Our fundamental mission is to help students at all levels, from undergraduate to postdoctoral, acquire and develop scientific knowledge, critical thinking skills, the ability to continue to learn, and the potential to contribute to society. Our undergraduate programs emphasize the basics – mathematics, chemistry, and physics – as well as comprehensive lecture, laboratory, and field study in geology & geophysics. Our graduate programs provide an understanding of the fundamentals of geology and related disciplines with opportunities for research in sedimentology and stratigraphy, structural geology, tectonophysics, deep crust and mantle dynamics, isotope geochemistry, paleoclimates and climate change, paleobiology and paleoecology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, and environmental geology and geochemistry.
