A low-magnification SEM image of oolites from the Smackover Formation (Jurassic) at North Haynesville Field, Louisiana. This is an example of a reservoir rock almost totally dominated by depositional characteristics. Pore spaces are intergranular, and are only partly occluded by a thin rim cement. There has been little distortion and compaction during burial diagenesis. The image is from Ahr student Ben Hull's MS thesis, and the oolites are about 1.5 to 2 mm in diameter.
